This year Wanderlust is taking place in the city and will be held in New York, San Francisco, and Santa Monica. O2 MAX and Health Magazine will be one of the hosts for the Wanderlust Yoga in the City event on September 9, 2012 at the Santa Monica Pier. There will be a several free outdoor yoga events with musicians and speakers throughout the day.

The event will raise money for charities utilizing the power of yoga, and 100% of the proceeds will go directly to the organizations like Off the Mat, Into the World and Yoga Across America. A few names worth mention that will be at the event are Seane Corn, Sianna Sherman, Tommy Rosen, Katie Brauer, MC Yogi, DJ Alsultany, and more importantly O2 MAX!

Yoga is a practice involving breathing, postural control, and meditation of the mind and body. Although physical fitness is an important part to one’s life for the benefits it extends on the body, mental wellness is a valuable component as well. At O2 MAX we strive to incorporate both aspects of the physical and mental well being to our training programs. We offer Real World, On-Demand, and Fitness 3.0 program solutions to take the thinking out and the workout in. Customizing fitness solutions for the busy-minded can range from yoga postures to interval training to get you the results you’re looking for.

Join us on the Santa Monica Pier on September 9th to learn more about our workouts. Also, you’ll get to meet Karen Jashinsky, our founder, who will be providing free fitness consultations at the Health Pavilion as the official Fitness Expert for Wanderlust from 3:30-5:00 pm!

FAME’s 8th Annual Back to School Giveaway & Health Fair took place Saturday, August 18 2012 on West Adams Blvd and Western in Los Angeles, CA. O2 MAX had the honor of taking part in this event with Dion Jackson as he and many others performed for the nearly 5,000 kids in attendance. The event started at 8:30AM and continued to 4:30PM.

The economic instabilities the children at the event endure day to day for simple necessities is unfortunate. Water was the most essential resource at the event as Dion pointed out; the carts of bottled water disappeared within minutes. Adapting to a healthy lifestyle can be difficult for these children. However, it’s leaders like Dion Jackson and O2 MAX that create a positive attitude in these communities, and help kids become aware of how a small change in nutrition and activity can really amount to larger differences over time.

It was great to see these kids out on such a hot and humid day having a good time. Children received backpacks, shoes, writing utensils, and other school supplies. The line to receive these special gifts extended for an approximate three hour wait as it curved around from Hobart and 27th to Western and Adams making up about five blocks.

While many children waited, others gathered at the main stage where performers like Tommy the Clown and Dion Jackson were getting kids moving. Tommy the Clown is an entertainer helping kids express themselves through dance in the particular style of “Krumping”. Tommy the Clown has been featured in the insightful documentary called “Rize”. Dion Jackson and the Let’s Move crew had kids jumping, dancing, and most importantly smiling. The group also handed out shoes and basketballs to promote a healthy style of living. It was truly a celebration for these children that was inspired by Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move Campaign!

First Tee and the LaLanne family partnered once again for the second annual celebrity Golf Tournament, this time held at the Brookside Golf Club in Pasadena, CA. The tournament was covered on ESPN radio 1280am by Mike & Billy, and the 6,000 yard course was filled with guests to inspire our youth. It was smiles all around while people arrived and set out for the course.

The Golfreation event mixed golf with a series of other activities along the course. Hole 6 in particular where I was stationed, consisted of picking an equipment of different sports such as tennis, soccer ball, baseball, football, or handball. Each person on the team got to pick just one piece of equipment. The first person begins at the start of the hole by tossing, kicking, or hitting the ball of their sport as far as possible. Wherever the ball landed the next person would use their sport apparatus to increase the distance working towards the end of the hole. When reaching the end, the last person must hit a bulls-eye target to complete that hole.

This was great to watch, all different age groups were engaged and proving their efforts on the course. Most reached the end within 10 tries, but one group set the record for 7. The beautiful weather made it all the more exciting to be out with First Tee and the LaLanne family!

I grew up in Santa Monica, Ca my whole life. Never liked being indoors, I would play tennis, basketball, soccer, lift weights or go for a run at the park. I played tennis competitively at Santa Monica High School as the #1 doubles seed and won two satellite tournaments with my associated tennis club. Now, I play tennis recreationally while frequently going to the gym. I am in my final semester at Cal State Northridge studying Kinesiology with an option of Exercise Science; my plan is to move onto Physical Therapy. My goal for summer and beyond is to be more nutritious!O2 Max has provided me with several opportunities and experiences thus far, and it’s a privilege to be part of such a great team!
