KAREN JASHINSKY CEO and Founder

Karen is a Certified Fitness Trainer, named “One of the 25 most influential young leaders in the fitness industry” by IHRSA, the industry’s professional organization because of her pioneering efforts to create health clubs for teens. She was named “Featured Trainer” in February 2007 by IDEA, the fitness trainer industry trade publication. Interest in developing her own business was a natural outgrowth of her experience overseeing every aspect of a successful family-owned restaurant business. Karen subsequently spent 3 years at Vivendi Universal in media planning, marketing and operations management. She has been a personal fitness trainer and nutrition consultant for teens in the LA/Beverly Hills area and conducted fitness classes and workshops in the LA Unified School District. She has consulted on youth projects for Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Fitness Council, written numerous articles on teen health for LA Family and other magazines and online newsletters. She created ENERGY ROCKS in 2006 with the LA After School All Stars as an annual all-day free health festival for teens, integrating music, hip-hop, and exercise and underscoring the link between physical fitness and academic achievement. Development of O2 MAX was chronicled in a series of articles in ENTREPRENEUR MAGAZINE and cited for spearheading the teen fitness movement in THE KIPLINGER REPORT, a national business forecast newsletter. In addition Karen initiated the Southern California Entrepreneur Roundtable at USC while serving as VP Business Development for the Entrepreneur and Venture Management Association. Karen now serves on the Board of Advisors for the Entrepreneur Mentor Society, helping other young entrepreneurs achieve their goals. Karen also serves as the chair for the Los Angeles Alumni and Parent Association for Washington University and is a moderator for the USC CEO Forum as well as Marketing Director for the Los Angeles chapter of NAWMBA (National Association of Women MBA’s). She earned an MBA from USC’s Marshall School of Business with an emphasis in entrepreneurship and has a BSBA from the John M. Olin School of Business at Washington University with an emphasis in marketing and international business.

CHARLES KURTZ Chief Financial Officer

Charles has been a finance executive as Director at Ernst & Young Corp. LLC in New York and Los Angeles (1997-2004), where his responsibilities included originating and growing new business opportunities, creating financial projections, advising on M&As, and raising capital. His experience extends to both the sell and buy sides of M&As, advising clients on diverse projects such as the sale of a $60M business or the acquisition of a $100M business. He has represented purchasers, secured creditors, majority owners and management in monetizing shares and retaining a stake in future growth and expansion. Since 2004 he has worked as an Independent Consultant in L.A., taking on select projects, assisting businesses with a wide range of financial issues and challenges. He graduated Cum Laude from Williams College (B.A.) and was a Stern Scholar at the N.Y.U. Stern School of Business where he earned an M.B.A. in Finance and Accounting.

HEATHER KANDAWIRE Chief Marketing Officer

Heather was appointed Chief Marketing Officer of O2 Max in February 2007. She brings over 15 years of leadership experience in strategic marketing, brand building and customer communications. An accomplished marketer, her vision and expertise have driven notable growth in the cable television industry. Her career began at Ingersoll-Rand and The Disney Channel before serving as Vice President, Marketing and Brand Strategy at Insight Communications, the nation’s 8 largest cable company, where she was responsible for overseeing all customer acquisition, strategic marketing and branding initiatives. Heather received her BS in Finance from Bentley College in Waltham, Massachusetts. In 2002 she earned an MBA in Marketing & Communications from Fordham University in New York City. Heather is also a Certified Personal Trainer of the ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine) and currently resides with her husband in Tokyo, where she offers Personal Training services to teens and adults.

SHIRLEY BROWN Programs and Operations Manager

Shirley received her Bachelor of Science in Health Promotion Fitness Management from Southern Oregon University. Her expertise includes fitness management, exercise physiology and weight training. She served as a sales associate at Gold’s Gym and office manager at UCLA Medical. Additionally, Shirley has competed in bodybuilding competitions and also has experience teaching students strength training, health and nutrition and is a Certified Personal Trainer with NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine). Shirley met Karen (founder) 3 years ago when introduced by a mutual friend who knew about their common passion-youth fitness. Shirley plays a vital role in developing the training and community programs at O2 MAX.

KIM REITER Certified Personal Trainer

Kim is a Certified Personal Trainer for teens who began her career as a pre-school teacher! She’s always had an affinity for supporting kids in their development and when she read about Karen in IDEA Health & Fitness Magazine in Feb. 2007 as their “Personal Trainer of the Month” and learned of the O2 MAX concept for teens she knew they had to meet. She’s worked at Sony Studios Athletic Club and Torrance Memorial Medical Center in physical therapy. Among her other accomplishments Kim has bungee jumped in Costa Rica, gone blackwater rafting in New Zealand and completed an 8 day charity bike ride for cancer from California to New Jersey. Her varied background includes a B.S. in Kinesiology from Cal. State University Long Beach, Certification from the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America and she is an official HoopFit instructor.

RAHEL ABEBE Intern

Rahel is 17 and a senior at Venice High School. This is Rahel’s first fitness
related job and she is excited about learning new excersises and helping O2 MAX gain
the recognition it deserves. Karen was a guest speaker in one of her classes and
when she heard about Karen needing interns, she jumped at the opportunity. Rahel
enjoys reading, writing, and hanging out with her friends. She helps keep the
website up to date by posting blogs related to fitness. Rahel is excited to join the
O2 MAX team and can’t wait to take part in all the activities.

Rachel is a 17 year old senior at Wildwood School. She has always loved sports and fitness. She currently plays libero for her schools volleyball team and point guard for their basketball team. She is passionate about science and math, and can’t wait to pursue her interests once she graduates. She is currently training with the AIDS Project Los Angeles for the Los Angeles Marathon. She loves interning at O2 MAX and thinks all of the events and opportunities for teens are awesome!

Molly is a student at George Washington University. She is majoring in marketing and enjoys dealing with public relations as well. She loves traveling and participating in theatrical shows. Molly and Karen met 5 years ago when Karen trained her personally. Molly helps O2 MAX make contacts with individuals, organizations, and companies in order to spread the word about O2 MAX.

Tal is a 17 year old senior at Beverly Hills High School. He likes long walks on the
beach and working out. But his true passion is wrestling, he is a 3 year varsity
wrestler for Beverly and has been team captain for 2007-2008 year, and is an
expected captain for 2008-2009. This is his first job at a fitness workspace but has
a good feeling it will be a lot of fun.

SCOTT TAMAKI Intern at large

Scott Tamaki is a 16 year old Junior at Santa Monica HighSchool. He is very passionate about sports and is playing Volleyball for his school team. He is also president of the Foosball Club at Samohi. Scott’s personal interests include spiritual awakings, anything involved in the arts, hanging with friends and participating in anything social. He is also taking part in an acting internship, a Big Brother at Grant, and is soon going to start the martial art, Hapkido. Scott likes to stay busy, enjoying the beach or keeping an open mind to anything new.

He is currently pursuing his Bachelor’s degree, studying business administration and history at Washington University in Saint Louis.
