Thursday 7/28-Run

Wow! It’s been a while since I have worked out…but I have a good excuse! My travels interrrupted my fitness routine, but I am ready to be back in shape! I forgot how easy it is to get out of shape…a lot easier than actually getting in to shape! Today I went for a 3 mile run. Half way into the run I did some sprints and stairs. Not exactly where I want to be at right now but definitely a good start to getting back into a routine.

Thursday 6/16- Run

This morning I went for a run similar to one last week. I recently just started using MapMyRun.com–such a good tool for running on streets. I never know how long my run is or what my pace really is, so this is the perfect website for me! I ran 4.14 miles in 39 minutes, not the greatest time but  it was more about me running longer distances. As I was running I ran past a house that had look-a-like London phone booth. This made me very excited for my London summer travel plans!

Sunday 6/12-Santa Monica Stairs Workout

This Sunday morning workout was different from the past two weeks. Instead of a more traditional track workout we went to the SM stairs. After a couple sets up the stairs I did four hills runs. This is the best area to workout in the morning; there are so many good fitness resources! After the hills I finished my workout with push ups and ab twists using a ten pound medicine ball.

Saturday 6/11- Runyon Canyon Hike & Tennis

Today I made my friend take me to Runyon Canyon with him for a hike. The trail we took was not as crowded for the simple reason that it was the

tough trail. The hike itself was pretty steep and a bit scary but the view from the top was amazing! Unfortunately it was a June gloom morning so the view wasn’t as pretty as it could have been but that just motivates me to go back on a clear day! After the hour long hike we went to a neighborhood park and played tennis. Even though I am not much of a tennis player these days, I always loved playing when I was younger! It was a lot of fun (and I won).

Thursday 6/9-Run

Before going to work with Karen, I decided to take a run in Santa Monica. I didn’t think I was going to run as long/far as I did but it was great. I started on Montana and ran in a big loop down to Ocean and back up on Idaho. It was about 40 minutes and I burned around 550 calories. It was such a good way to clear my mind and focus on myself. Once I was on Ocean I stopped for about 1o minutes to do some push ups and dips on a bench. Running by the ocean always makes for a good day!

Tuesday 6/7-SculptWorks Tarzana

I’ve been going to YogaBlend 1/2 classes but today I decided to take ScupltWorks. I had no idea what the difference would be! I was pleasantly surprised with the class. It focused more on core muscles and upper body (which I am totally lacking). It was a great workout. Next time I am going to take a run and then go straight to this hour long class to focus on strength and toning my core.

Sunday 6/5- SMC Workout

It is my second week of this workout! I knew what I was getting myself into…or at least that is what I thought. This workout was similar to the last but there were more sprinting interval components. Used my new Polar watch to count calories and to read my heartrate. Ended up burning 750+ calories for an hour and 20 minute workout!

Friday 6/3- Run & Yoga

Today I met with Jenni, another intern and soon-to-be UCLA grad, to take a run and yoga class. Similar to Thursday we ran 2 miles and took a class at YogaWorks. The run went quick and I think I am improving in yoga!

Thursday 6/2- Run & Yoga

This morning I went for a 2 mile run in Santa Monica and then went to YogaWorks on Montana for a YogaBlend level 1/2 class. I was more fit for this level class since I am just beginning, but so excited to get better!

Wednesday 6/1- Hike

I hiked Fryman Canyon (http://www.lamountains.com/parks.asp?parkid=66) with my dad today! The uphill was easier than I had remembered! Such a pretty hike, close to an hour long! This is a great social activity to do with friends while still being able to work up a sweat!

Tuesday 5/31- Santa Monica Stairs

I am obsessed with these stairs! I wish they were closer to my house, I would be there every morning! The whole environment is so positive and you can meet so many interesting people. I did 5 intervals with push-ups and crunches as well! Also met a guy who completed the Tough Mudder Socal Competition! My goal!!

Monday 5/30- Run

Monday I ran a little over 2 miles around my house. It was pretty hot out so I definitely worked up a sweat. My body was feeling a bit sore today.

Sunday 5/29-SMC Workout

This workout made me feel like I was on a team again. Very similar to some soccer condition practices that I used to go to. I felt really accomplished after. Intervals make me feel like I am really getting stronger and gaining endurance. Pull-ups on the track were a first!

Friday 5/27- Run & Yoga
LOVED the run. I need to constantly have a change of environment so I can look around at new things and not get bored. Running to the ocean was a beautiful half way mark. Yoga was so tough for me! I went with Karen, Laurel, and Nancy!  I do not have too much upper body strength so I think the level was a bit too intense for me. Excited to start going regularly and improving my skills.
